"Anxiety and worry" induces fear transformation in cancer patients: an evidence-based exploration and theoretical consideration of the emotional evolution in tumor patients.

Xu. Anran A; Liu. Yinqin Y; Li. Shaobin S; Cheng. Yanqi Y; Zhang. Chen C; Fang. Hong H

A big review of 27 studies shows that cancer patients who feel anxious or depressed are more likely to develop a strong fear of their disease getting worse, especially women. The paper mentions that hormones such as oxytocin might play a role in this emotional shift, but it doesn’t test oxytocin itself.

Trait-like and State-like Oxytocin: A Biomarker of Alliance in Patients with Depression and Borderline Personality Disorder.

Peysachov. Galit G; Tchizick. Amit A; Delgadillo. Jaime J; Shamay-Tsoory. Simone S; Zilcha-Mano. Sig...

The study looked at oxytocin (a hormone linked to bonding) in people with depression and borderline personality disorder during therapy. It found that when therapists started a session with low oxytocin but their levels rose during the session, patients with more severe borderline traits felt a better connection with the therapist. This pattern didn’t show up in the patients themselves.

Labor Induction with Synthetic Oxytocin and Infantile Colic: A Case-Control Study.

Suárez-Fraga. Cristina C; Rodríguez-Nogueira. Óscar Ó; Pinto-Carral. Arrate A; L...

A study of 76 newborns in Spain looked at whether the hormone oxytocin given to mothers during labor affects babies developing colic (excessive crying). They found no clear link between the drug and colic, and it also didn’t change how babies were fed. Babies with colic had slightly smaller heads at birth, but this finding wasn’t strong enough to be conclusive.

Nonapeptide cell size differs between male morphs of the West African cichlid, Pelvicachromis pulcher.

Reddon. Adam R AR; Wylie. Douglas R DR; Hurd. Peter L PL

In a West African cichlid fish, the more aggressive, polygynous red males have bigger oxytocin‑producing brain cells than the less aggressive yellow males, but the total number of oxytocin cells is the same. This hints that oxytocin neuron size, not cell count, might help shape different social behaviors in these fish.

Evolutionarily conserved role of oxytocin in zebrafish social reward encoding.

Kareklas. Kyriacos K; Herrera-Castillo. Lisbeth L; Levkowitz. Gil G; Oliveira. Rui F RF

In zebrafish, the hormone oxytocin (through its receptor) is needed for the fish to feel a social reward when it meets a sibling. Fish that lack the oxytocin receptor don't develop a preference for a place linked to that social interaction, showing oxytocin helps encode social pleasure.

Vasopressin-to-oxytocin receptor crosstalk in the preoptic area underlying parental behaviors in male mice.

Inada. Kengo K; Hagihara. Mitsue M; Yaguchi. Kasane K; Irie. Satsuki S; Inoue. Yukiko U YU; Inoue. T...

In male mice, becoming a dad changes their behavior from attacking babies to caring for them. This shift isn’t caused only by oxytocin; vasopressin neurons in the brain also help, and they talk to oxytocin receptors in a specific brain area to trigger paternal care.

Molecular genetic basis of the primary emotions in young adults: an exploratory analysis of genetic polymorphisms across dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, endogenous opioid, and neurotrophic factor pathways.

Glavač. Timotej T; Barbo. Maruša M; Ravnik-Glavač. Metka M; Zupančič....

Researchers studied 333 young adults to see if certain gene variants, including those for the oxytocin receptor, were linked to basic emotions. They found some sex‑specific links for dopamine, serotonin, opioid, and brain‑derived neurotrophic factor genes, but the oxytocin‑related genes showed no clear connection to emotions.

Prefrontal oxytocin receptor positive cells mediate stress-induced anxiety in tuberous sclerosis complex.

Tabaka. Olivia O; Lawal. Saheed S; Del Rio Triana. Rodrigo R; Hou. Mian M; Fraser. Alexandra A; Gall...

In mice, removing a gene (Tsc2) from brain cells that have oxytocin receptors makes those cells overactive and triggers a stress response that leads to anxiety, especially in males under social isolation. Blocking part of that stress response (PERK) or tweaking a related protein (Rheb) in the prefrontal cortex can reverse the anxiety and restore normal brain activity. The study shows that oxytocin‑receptor cells are a key link between stress, anxiety, and a cellular pathway called mTORC1‑PERK.

High or low dose oxytocin for nulliparous women delayed in the first stage of labour: the HOLDS RCT.

Kenyon. Sara S; Johnston. Tracey T; Waugh. Jason J; Hinshaw. Kim K; Sanders. Julia J; Ewer. Andrew A...

A UK trial compared a higher dose of oxytocin to the usual dose for first‑time mothers whose labour was slow. The higher dose seemed to lower C‑section rates a bit (27% vs 34%) but the study was very small and didn’t prove safety or effectiveness definitively.

Progestagens Monitoring in 147 Mares in Order to Induce Foaling With Oxytocin.

Tainturier. Daniel D; Tainturier. Benoit B; Michaud. Sandrine S; Briand-Amirat. Lamia L; Topie. Emma...

Researchers tracked 147 pregnant mares and found that when blood progestagen levels fell about half within a day, a single injection of oxytocin (10‑50 IU) reliably started labor, with most foals born in 20‑50 minutes. This protocol works for horses but doesn’t translate to human health or performance goals.

68Ga-Labeled Peptides Targeting Oxytocin Receptor in Breast Cancer Using Linchpin Chemistry for Tandem Peptide Cyclization and Radiometal Chelator Incorporation.

Perera. Madinage Pawani Jayathri MPJ; Pike. Susan S; Yuen. Richard R; Bergman. Cody C; Woodfield. Je...

Scientists made special versions of oxytocin that light up tumors in PET scans, showing they can see breast cancer cells that have lots of oxytocin receptors, but this work is about imaging cancer, not about using oxytocin for health or performance.

Oxytocin Levels in Response to Others' Suffering According to the Type of Conviction for Intimate Partner Violence Against Women.

Marín-Morales. Agar A; Comes-Fayos. Javier J; Riveros Valle. María Eugenia ME; Lila. Maris...

The study measured saliva oxytocin in men convicted of intimate partner violence and in non‑offenders while they watched a video meant to spark empathy. Men who committed physical violence showed a drop in oxytocin, while those who committed psychological violence and the non‑offenders showed an increase. Lower oxytocin levels were linked to higher risk of re‑offending, more benevolent sexist attitudes, and having a physical‑violence conviction.

Maternal obesity in low-resource settings: a multicenter cohort study of labor and neonatal outcomes in Guinea.

Diallo. Abdourahamane A; Bah. Elhadj Mamoudou EM; Bah. Ibrahima Koussy IK; Sy. Telly T; Hounga. Loth...

In Guinea, pregnant women who are obese face many more complications during birth, like needing more inductions, longer labor, more C‑sections, and higher chances of bleeding and infections. Their babies also have higher risks of low birth scores and needing resuscitation. The study shows that obesity makes childbirth riskier, similar to richer countries.

Genome-wide adaptive selection and functional annotation of regulatory variation in the Yangxin pig.

Liu. Sha S; Chen. Qiong Q; Zhou. Huanhuan H; Yang. Caichun C; Shi. Liangyu L; Chen. Hongbo H

The study looked at the DNA of a Chinese pig breed to see which parts of the genome have been shaped by natural selection, finding many non‑coding changes linked to muscle growth and reproductive traits, and noting that the oxytocin pathway shows up among the genes under selection, but it doesn’t test oxytocin itself or give any advice for human use.

Induction of Labor After Fetal Demise in Third Trimester-A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Vodopivec. Sara S; Kavšek. Gorazd G; Pečlin. Polona P; Druškovič. Mirjam M

This study compared two drugs (PGE1 and PGE2) used to start labor after a fetal death in the third trimester. It found that PGE1 leads to a quicker delivery and shorter labor, while PGE2 often needs extra oxytocin and takes longer, but pain was higher with PGE1. No major safety differences were seen.

Preterm labour induction: modalities, implications and outcomes.

Kolp-Asis. Shanny S; Yozevitch. Roi R; Baram. Reut R; Miron. Elad E; Vaknin-Geron. Limor L; Levin. S...

This study looked at how different drugs used to start pre‑term labor affect C‑section rates and baby health. It found that using prostaglandins leads to fewer C‑sections than using oxytocin (either alone or after a balloon catheter), and there were no extra risks to the babies. For people interested in using oxytocin for health‑boosting or anti‑aging purposes, the research doesn’t provide useful or actionable information.

Effect of a Mobility-Encouragement Protocol During Induction of Labor With an Extra-Amniotic Balloon Compared to Routine Care: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Mor. Liat L; Herman. Hadas Ganer HG; Barda. Giulia G; Kleiner. Ilia I; Torem. Maya M; Tairy. Daniel...

A study tested whether giving pregnant women pedometers and encouraging them to walk during labor induction with an extra‑amniotic balloon would speed up delivery or reduce pain. It found no overall benefit—delivery times, pain, and satisfaction were the same as usual care, and more walking was actually linked to slightly longer labor phases. The approach was safe and doable, but it didn’t improve outcomes.
